As part of Samoa’s national reporting commitments under the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) convened the Second Meeting of the Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) Core Team to advance Samoa’s 2026 UNCCD National Online PRAIS Submission.
This three-day session, held from August 5 to 7 at the MNRE Environment Learning Center, brought together core team members and inter-agency partners to dialogue and coordinate efforts on the Land Degradation (LD) Assessment for Samoa’s Land Cover (SOI-1), and the subsequent assessment of SOI-2 and SOI-3 Indicators on Land Productivity and Soil Carbon. This assessment is integral to Samoa’s 8th national reporting cycle to the UNCCD, with final submission scheduled for 30 November 2026, following ratification of the Convention in 1998.
Led by MNRE, the initiative emphasizes active participation, sustained commitment, and inter-agency collaboration among government entities to meet Samoa’s SDG 15.3.1 targets for Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) by 2030.
