The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) through its Climate Change Division, hosted a Validation Workshop on 24 September 2026 to review the Technical Assessment and Development of a User-Pay System for the Ministry’s Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Station. The workshop brought together representatives from SPREP, government agencies, development partners, private sector representatives, consultants and other stakeholders.
The technical assessment, undertaken by Bytewatchers Samoa in collaboration with Telecommunications Regulatory & Business Solutions Consulting, examined the technical requirements, payment options, operational arrangements and potential business model for the existing MNRE EV charging station and its future expansion.
Stakeholders reviewed the assessment findings and provided practical feedback on the proposed user-pay system. Discussions highlighted the importance of ensuring that EV charging infrastructure is reliable, accessible, affordable and financially sustainable while also being appropriate to Samoa’s national context.
The development of a user-pay system is an important step towards supporting the sustainable operation and future expansion of EV charging infrastructure in Samoa. MNRE acknowledges and appreciates the valuable contributions of SPREP through the Regional Pacific NDC Hub, the consulting teams, government agencies, development partners and all stakeholders who supported this initiative.
