International Climate Inative
This sixth international call for proposals invites regional, national, and local organizations from ODA-eligible countries to apply for funding aimed at local or regional climate and biodiversity initiatives. The IKI Small Grants program offers financial support ranging from EUR 60,000 to 200,000 and is part of the International Climate Initiative (IKI) established by the German Federal Government.
GEF 7
The impact of Invasive Alien Species (IAS) on Samoa’s biodiversity continues to be extensive and costly, financially, ecologically and culturally. It also has impacts to the productivity and economic output of primary industries such as agriculture, forestry and fisheries, as well as threatening the integrity and biodiversity of natural ecosystems and their processes. The project objective to equip and empower local communities to safeguard Samoa’s indigenous species, natural ecosystems and food production systems from IAS and unsustainable land use practices is to be achieved through the implementation of three interrelated and mutually complementary Components that are focused on addressing existing barriers.
NBSAP & 7th National Report to CBD
This Global Programme will support countries in revising and updating their National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) to align with the recently agreed upon Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and enable effective implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the Kunming Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework at the national level. In addition, this grant supports countries in preparing and submitting their 7th National Report on the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
3Million Planting Campaign
Forestry Farmers play a vital role in replanting forests through woodlots, agroforestry, and boundary planting to name a few hence, the 3MTPC (3 Million Tree Planting Campaign 2022 – 2028) values their ongoing contributions and recognizes their hard work. These farmers were invited for the first time to a series of consultation workshops carried out in 6 districts last week. The aim was to introduce the grants offered by the campaign to plant more trees encouraging their input to meet the 3 million targets by the year 2028 and to mitigate climate boosting conservation and sustainable use of forestry resources
(PRISMSS-RIR) Project
Project Objective: · Enhance PRISMSS capabilities and delivery of 5 main focal programs. · NENS: Management of invasive weed species using safe and well reasearched biological control agents. · PFP: Eradication of invasive rats and feral pigs from Nuutele Island Aleipata. · WOW: Support the nations efforts to eradicate the Rattan Palm from the remaining introduction site at Tuaefu. · RERC: Effective management of the invasive False Kava (Ava Koga) at Mt. Vaea, and the invasive Cordia Aleora (Kotia) from Faleata National Reserve. · POI: Procurement of equipment and resources required for the successful implementation of the Samoa Invasive Species Emergency Response Plan (SISERP)2025-2030.
GEF 8 Umbrella Project for the Development of Biodiversity Finance Plans (BioFin
The GEF Umbrella Project is a Global project that will support Samoa in developing its Biodiversity Finance Plans to support the implementation of the National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plan (NBSAP), to enhance the financial management of biodiversity and ecosystems. Biodiversity finance is the practice of raising and managing capital and using financial incentives to support sustainable biodiversity management.
RIR PFP PROJECT
The Division of Environment and Conservation (DEC) under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), in collaboration with its partners, Island Conservation, SPREP-PRISMSS, and the landowner of Nu’utele island, is conducting an eradication campaign against invasive predators as part of the PRISMSS Restoring Island Resilience – Predator Free Pacific (PRISMSS-RIR-PFP) Samoa project. This operation aims to assess the presence of invasive predators, such as Feral Pigs and Rats, on Nu’utele Island, located off the Aleipata coast, with the objective of eradicating them in order to restore the island’s fragile biodiversity.
