The village of Gagaifolevao, Lefaga  proudly became part of Samoa’s Tsunami Ready Programme on August 3, 2026  marking another important milestone in strengthening community preparedness and resilience to tsunami hazards. 
The programme brought together village leaders, women, youth, and community members to build their understanding of tsunami risks, improve evacuation planning, and promote coordinated actions that help protect lives and livelihoods.
Through active participation and engaging discussions, the community demonstrated its strong commitment to ensuring everyone is informed, prepared, and ready to respond effectively in the event of a tsunami or other coastal hazards. 
This initiative is implemented by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) through the Disaster Management Office and the Meteorological Service Division, with support from UNESCO and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) .
