The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), in collaboration with the Pacific Community (SPC), successfully completed the Urban SavaiΚ»i Community Consultation on Wednesday, 29 July 2026 πŸ“…, as part of the Geospatial Mapping of Loss and Damage Sites in Samoa Project πŸ—ΊοΈ.
The consultation marks another important step in the project’s ongoing implementation 🀝, bringing together community representatives πŸ‘₯ to support the identification and validation of priority climate Loss and Damage sites πŸ“ across Samoa.
The project combines community knowledge πŸ’¬ with geospatial information πŸ›°οΈ to improve understanding of how climate change is affecting people, infrastructure πŸ—οΈ, ecosystems 🌿, and livelihoods 🏑. These consultations ensure that local perspectives contribute to the development of accurate and reliable datasets πŸ—ΊοΈ that will support future climate resilience planning. 🌦️
Following the Urban SavaiΚ»i consultation, project activities continue with fieldwork πŸš™πŸ“ and further engagement with communities in Manono and Apolima 🏝️, as well as a National Stakeholder Consultation 🀝 to support the validation of identified sites.
