The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Small Grants Programme (SGP) successfully launched the Specific Call for Proposals for community led projects with the initial outreach workshop carried out for Upolu today, 1 September 2026, at the TATTE Convention Centre.
The Outreach workshop targeting specific village communities of the GEF-7 Samoa IAS Project in Upolu provided key information for community-based groups and faith-based community organizations, on the proposal development and submission process. The specific Call for proposals are targeted towards community-led initiatives that can equip and empower them to safeguard their natural ecosystems and food production systems from Invasive Species.
The workshop also highlighted the importance of community participation, local knowledge and collective action in strengthening environmental protection and supporting impactful outcomes. The program reiterates the important role that our communities play in protecting our environment putting local communities at the centre of environmental decision-making and action.
The Ministry acknowledges and sincerely appreciates the valuable participation and contributions of all community representatives, as well as the support and partnership of the UNDP and the Small Grants Programme (SGP), in coordinating this important program.
