The National Environment Sector Advisory Committee (NESAC) conducted a site visit to key environmental projects and facilities in Savaii from 24-26 August, 2026.
The visit provided Committee members with the opportunity to gain firsthand insight into the implementation of environmental initiatives led by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), while strengthening their understanding of the Ministry’s work across climate resilience, waste management, environmental education, and geospatial services.
  •  The sites visited included:
  • Savai’i Emergency Operations Center – Maota
  • Spring Pool Rehabilitation Project – Foailuga
  • Solar Lights – Auala
  • Masamasa National Park – Masamasa
  • Vaiaata Landfill – Vaiaata
  • Satuipatea Seawall – Satuipatea
The site visit forms part of NESAC’s role in providing strategic advice and guidance on the implementation of the National Environment Sector Plan (NESP). Through these visits, Committee members are able to observe progress on key environmental initiatives, strengthen collaboration with implementing divisions, and support informed decision-making for the sustainable management of Samoa’s environment.
The Ministry acknowledges the SPREP through the Samoa GEF OFP Grant for making this site visit possible and the participation of our stakeholders and we look forward to continue our good working relationship throughout the years.
