SAMOA’S STRATEGIC ROADMAP FOR EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT: A COLLABORATIVE NATIONAL INITIATIVE – JULY 16, 2026

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), through its Disaster Management Office (DMO), convened a Stakeholder Consultation Workshop for Samoa’s Strategic Roadmap for Emergency Management (SREM) on July 16, 2026 at Tuanaimato.

The workshop follows three days of extensive stakeholder consultations with technical support from the Pacific Island Emergency Management Alliance (PIEMA) under the Pacific Community (SPC). These consultations provided valuable insights into key areas, including governance and coordination, capability and workforce development, community engagement and inclusion, and the identification of strategic priorities for strengthening emergency management across Samoa.

Aligned with the Disaster Risk Management framework this Roadmap will enhance coordination across first responders, response agencies and sectors, clarify roles and responsibilities and support a more proactive and integrated approach to managing emergencies and disasters. Samoa’s roadmap will also reflect the priorities of the Pacific’s Strategic Roadmap for Emergency Management, ensuring Samoa’s national emergency management arrangements are aligned with regional best practices, strengthened collaboration, and a coordinated Pacific approach to managing emergencies and disasters.
