The village of Lotopue has successfully completed implementation activities under the Tsunami Ready Recognition Programme (TRRP), reinforcing Samoa’s ongoing commitment to building safer and more resilient coastal communities. 
Coordinated by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), through the Disaster Management Office (DMO) and the Samoa Meteorological Service, the programme supports communities in strengthening their readiness for tsunami hazards through practical planning, public awareness, and improved emergency response arrangements. 
As part of the programme, official tsunami hazard zone and evacuation route signs were installed at key locations throughout the village. 
These signs are an important preparedness measure, providing clear directions to designated evacuation routes and safe assembly areas. During a tsunami emergency, they help both residents and visitors navigate quickly to higher ground, supporting a faster and safer evacuation.

By bringing together technical expertise and local knowledge, the initiative helps communities build confidence and preparedness while working towards internationally recognised Tsunami Ready indicators. 
MNRE acknowledges the commitment and cooperation shown by the people of Lotopue throughout the programme and extends its sincere appreciation to UNESCO and USAID for their continued financial and technical support in advancing tsunami preparedness across Samoa.
