Every community that strengthens its preparedness brings Samoa one step closer to becoming a more resilient nation. The village of Saleaumua has now successfully completed local implementation activities under the Tsunami Ready Recognition Programme (TRRP), continuing the nationwide effort to enhance tsunami preparedness in coastal communities. 
Implemented by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), through the Disaster Management Office (DMO) and the Samoa Meteorological Service, the programme empowers communities with the knowledge, tools, and practical measures needed to prepare for and respond to tsunami hazards. 
As part of the programme, official tsunami hazard zone and evacuation route signs were installed at strategic locations throughout Saleaumua. 
These signs provide clear direction to safe evacuation routes and assembly areas, helping residents and visitors respond quickly and safely when a tsunami warning is issued. Alongside the installation, community members and technical officers worked together to review local tsunami risks, validate evacuation routes, and strengthen emergency response arrangements.

The Tsunami Ready Recognition Programme is founded on a simple principle: prepared communities save lives. By combining scientific knowledge with local experience, communities are better equipped to make informed decisions before, during, and after a tsunami, while working towards internationally recognised Tsunami Ready indicators.
