The village of Samusu has successfully completed local implementation activities under the Tsunami Ready Recognition Programme (TRRP), marking another important milestone in Samoa’s ongoing efforts to strengthen tsunami preparedness and build resilient coastal communities. 
Implemented by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), through the Disaster Management Office (DMO) and the Samoa Meteorological Service, the programme works hand in hand with communities to improve tsunami risk awareness, evacuation planning, warning systems, and emergency response arrangements. 
A key component of the Tsunami Ready Recognition Programme is the installation of official tsunami hazard zone and evacuation route signs at strategic locations throughout participating villages. 
In Samusu, these signs now provide clear guidance for residents and visitors, directing them away from tsunami hazard zones and towards designated evacuation routes and safe assembly areas. During a tsunami emergency, clear and visible signage helps people make quick, informed decisions, reducing confusion and supporting a safe evacuation to higher ground.

Alongside the installation of the signage, community members worked closely with government technical officers to review local tsunami hazards, validate evacuation routes, identify safe assembly areas, and strengthen local warning dissemination and emergency response procedures. These activities contribute towards meeting internationally recognised Tsunami Ready indicators while fostering a culture of preparedness and resilience within the community.
