The village of Musumusu, Fagaloa has successfully completed local implementation activities under the Tsunami Ready Recognition Programme (TRRP), marking another important milestone in Samoa’s commitment to building safer and more resilient coastal communities. 
Lead by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), through the Disaster Management Office (DMO) and the Samoa Meteorological Service, the programme works in partnership with communities to strengthen tsunami preparedness through improved risk awareness, evacuation planning, warning systems, and emergency response arrangements. 
As part of the programme, community members worked alongside government technical officers to review local tsunami risks, validate evacuation routes, identify safe assembly areas, and strengthen local warning and response procedures. Official tsunami hazard zone and evacuation route signs were also installed at key locations throughout the village, providing clear guidance for residents and visitors to reach safety during a tsunami emergency. 
The Tsunami Ready Recognition Programme empowers communities to take ownership of their disaster preparedness by combining local knowledge with scientific expertise. Through this collaborative approach, villages continue working towards internationally recognised Tsunami Ready indicators while strengthening resilience for future generations. 
MNRE commends the people of Musumusu for their commitment, cooperation, and active participation throughout the programme. The Ministry also extends its sincere appreciation to UNESCO and USAID for their continued financial and technical support in advancing this important initiative across Samoa. 
Together, each participating village brings Samoa one step closer to becoming a safer, stronger, and more tsunami-ready nation.
