The village of Lalomanu has joined the growing number of communities participating in Samoa’s Tsunami Ready Recognition Programme (TRRP), continuing the national effort to strengthen preparedness and build resilience to tsunami hazards. 
Lead by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), through the Disaster Management Office (DMO) and the Samoa Meteorological Service, the programme works closely with communities to strengthen local preparedness through improved tsunami risk awareness, evacuation planning, warning systems, and emergency response arrangements. 
As part of the implementation in Lalomanu, community members and technical officers collaborated to review local tsunami risks, validate evacuation routes, identify safe assembly areas, and strengthen community response procedures. The installation of tsunami hazard and evacuation signage further supports these efforts by providing clear guidance for residents and visitors during an emergency. 
The Tsunami Ready Recognition Programme is built on the principle that prepared communities save lives. By combining scientific expertise with local knowledge, the initiative empowers villages to take ownership of their disaster preparedness while working towards internationally recognised Tsunami Ready indicators. 
MNRE commends the people of Lalomanu for their commitment and active participation throughout the programme and extends its sincere appreciation to UNESCO and USAID for their continued financial and technical support in advancing this important initiative across Samoa. 
Together, each participating village brings Samoa one step closer to becoming a safer, stronger, and more tsunami-ready nation.
