The village of Salimu today successfully completed community activities under the Tsunami Ready Recognition Programme (TRRP), marking another important step in strengthening tsunami preparedness and resilience across the Fagaloa District. 
Community members joined technical teams from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), including representatives from the Disaster Management Office and the Samoa Meteorological Service, in a collaborative effort to assess local tsunami risks and strengthen preparedness arrangements within the village. 
Activities throughout the day included community consultations, identification of tsunami hazard areas, validation of evacuation routes, and discussions on safe evacuation procedures and designated assembly areas. Participants also explored ways to enhance local warning dissemination systems and strengthen coordination during emergency situations. 
The programme places strong emphasis on community participation, ensuring that local knowledge, experiences, and perspectives contribute directly to preparedness planning. By combining technical expertise with community insight, Salimu is helping to build practical and locally relevant measures that can support effective action during tsunami emergencies. 
The Tsunami Ready Recognition Programme supports Samoa’s ongoing efforts to strengthen disaster preparedness and assist coastal communities in meeting internationally recognised Tsunami Ready indicators. Through initiatives such as these, villages are empowered to take an active role in protecting lives, reducing disaster risks, and building resilience for future generations.
