The village of Sauano today officially commenced local implementation of the Tsunami Ready Recognition Programme (TRRP), becoming the latest community in the Fagaloa District to take part in this important national initiative aimed at strengthening tsunami preparedness and community resilience. 
Building on the successful rollout across neighbouring villages, community members joined technical teams from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), the Disaster Management Office (DMO), and the Samoa Meteorological Service to undertake a series of activities focused on enhancing local readiness for tsunami hazards. 
Throughout the day, participants engaged in community consultations, reviewed tsunami risks specific to the village, identified vulnerable coastal areas, and validated evacuation routes leading to designated safe locations. 
Discussions also focused on strengthening local warning dissemination and emergency response arrangements to ensure timely action can be taken when a tsunami threat arises.

The Tsunami Ready Recognition Programme forms part of Samoa’s ongoing efforts to support coastal communities in meeting internationally recognised Tsunami Ready indicators and building a culture of preparedness across the country.
