⏺️The Initiative for Climate Action Transparency (ICAT) Renewable Energy Guide offers a step-by-step approach to assess the greenhouse gas (GHG) impacts of renewable energy policies. This essential tool helps policymakers and stakeholders understand how their renewable energy (RE) policies contribute to GHG emission reductions. By identifying the connections between policies and their impacts, the guide supports evidence-based decision-making.
⏺️The recent workshop on this guide was conducted at Taumeasina Island Resort by the Renewable Energy Division (RED) through the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), empowering Samoan policymakers and practitioners with the knowledge to make informed decisions on renewable energy policies.
⏺️Here’s how ICAT is making a difference for Samoa:
✅ Develop Effective Renewable Energy Policies: With the ICAT methodology, policymakers can understand the GHG impacts of different policy options, ensuring that Samoa designs policies that maximize emission reductions.
✅ Coordinate Energy Transition Efforts: The training helps stakeholders know their roles and how they can work together to achieve Samoa’s national renewable energy goals.
✅ Attract Climate Finance: By showcasing the results of effective policies with transparent assessments, Samoa can attract international funding for renewable energy projects.
✅ Track Progress Towards National Goals: The ICAT framework allows Samoa to track progress towards its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and sustainable development goals.
✅ Promote Sustainable Development: ICAT’s Sustainable Development Assessment Guide helps Samoa analyze both the positive and negative impacts of policies, ensuring that policies lead to holistic, sustainable outcomes.
⏺️This training is part of our continued efforts to empower Samoa’s transition to a sustainable, low-carbon future. Together, we can build a cleaner, greener Samoa! 💚
