The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), through its Division of Environment and Conservation 🌱, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) 🀝, successfully convened the Validation Workshop for Samoa’s 7th National Report to the Convention on Biological Diversity πŸ¦‹πŸŒΊ on 5 August 2026, at the Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey’s Hotel Conference Room. 🏨
The workshop brought together representatives from Government ministries πŸ›οΈ, development partners 🀝, civil society organisations πŸ‘₯, academia πŸŽ“, and other key stakeholders to validate Samoa’s draft Seventh National Report (7NR) πŸ“‘ to CBD. The report will contribute to the global assessment 🌍 of progress towards achieving the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) 🌿 and its 2030 biodiversity targets. 🎯
The programme commenced with an inaugural session 🎀 featuring welcoming remarks, followed by a keynote address from the ACEO for Division of Environment and Conservation, Su’emalo Tumutalie Foliga, reaffirming Samoa’s commitment πŸ‡ΌπŸ‡Έ to strengthening biodiversity conservation 🌳 and sustainable environmental management. 🌏 Stakeholders then participated in a series of technical presentations πŸ“Š and discussions πŸ’¬ examining the draft report’s methodology, national targets, national indicators, progress ratings, supporting evidence πŸ“–, and key implementation challenges across four thematic areas.
Throughout the workshop, participants provided valuable technical feedback πŸ’‘ and recommendations πŸ“ to ensure the report accurately reflects Samoa’s achievements πŸ†, challenges, and priorities in conserving biodiversity. 🌿 The validation process also reinforced the importance of strong collaboration 🀝 among government agencies, communities 🏘️, development partners, and other stakeholders in advancing national biodiversity goals. 🌺
Samoa’s Seventh National Report πŸ“˜ provides a comprehensive assessment of the country’s progress in implementing the Convention on Biological Diversity 🌿 while aligning national priorities with the draft National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) 2025–2030 πŸ“… and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. 🌍 It highlights Samoa’s commitment πŸ‡ΌπŸ‡Έ to protecting biodiversity 🦜, restoring ecosystems 🌳, strengthening community-based conservation 🀲, and promoting sustainable development ♻️ for present and future generations. 🌏
