FIRST TECHNICAL WORKING GROUP MEETING SUCCESSFULLY HELD FOR THE SAMOA CBIT PROJECT

The inaugural Technical Working Group (TWG) Meeting for the Samoa Capacity Building Initiative for Transparency (CBIT) Project was successfully held on 4 August 2026, at the MNRE Learning Center, TATTE Building. The meeting was convened by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment through its Climate Change Division.

The gathering formally established the Technical Working Group and brought together representatives from key government ministries, state-owned enterprises, academia, civil society, and development partners.

The Samoa Capacity-building Initiative for Transparency (CBIT) Project aims to strengthen Samoa’s national capacity to collect, manage, and report high-quality climate data in line with the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) under the Paris Agreement. By improving climate transparency systems and technical capacity, the project enables evidence-based decision-making, supports effective climate action, and strengthens Samoa’s access to international climate finance.

During the meeting, participants were provided with a clear overview of the project’s objectives, work plan, progress to date, and planned activities for the coming months. As key actors in implementing Samoa’s national transparency and climate reporting processes, the Technical Working Group Members’ participation and technical input is highly valued and will contribute significantly to strengthening collaboration and ensuring the successful implementation of the project.

The Samoa CBIT Project is co-executed by MNRE and the GGGI Pacific, with support from the UN Environment Programme as the implementing agency, and funded by the Global Environment Facility. The Ministry gratefully acknowledges the GEF for its generous support, which has made this important work possible, and also acknowledges all those who attended and contributed to a productive discussion. Continued engagement from partners will be essential as Samoa strengthens its systems for tracking, reporting, and communicating climate action.
