The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), through its Division of Environment and Conservation, successfully concluded a series of community consultations across Savai’i as part of the development of Invasive Alien Species (IAS) Management Plans for selected villages. 
Conducted on 31st July 2026, the consultation brought together representatives from villages and communities across Savai’i, providing a valuable platform for dialogue, collaboration, and the sharing of local knowledge to strengthen efforts in addressing the growing impacts of invasive alien species on Samoa’s biodiversity and natural ecosystems.
Participants exchanged experiences and insights on invasive plants, birds, mammals, and other priority invasive species affecting their communities. The consultations encouraged meaningful discussions on prevention, early detection, monitoring, reporting, and coordinated community action, while ensuring the proposed management plans reflect local priorities and realities.
The technical presentation was delivered by Consultant Patea Loli Malo Setefano of XPMS & Associates Ltd., followed by interactive discussions that provided participants with the opportunity to share their knowledge, experiences, and recommendations. The feedback gathered will help refine the proposed Invasive Alien Species (IAS) Management Plans to ensure they are practical, community-driven, and responsive to local priorities.
