COMMUNITY CONSULTATION ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF INVASIVE ALIEN SPECIES (IAS) MANAGEMENT PLAN – FALEALUPO | JULY 30, 2026

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), through its Division of Environment and Conservation, conducted a community consultation with Falealupo as part of the development of an Invasive Alien Species (IAS) Management Plan.

The consultation brought together village representatives to discuss practical and sustainable approaches to managing invasive alien species while promoting community participation in protecting the village’s natural environment.

During the programme, Consultant Afi’a James Atherton presented an overview of the IAS Management Plan, while Miss Moeumu Uili delivered a presentation as part of the technical programme. The session also provided an opportunity for participants to share their local knowledge, experiences, and recommendations, contributing valuable input towards the development of a management plan that reflects the priorities of the Falealupo community.

This consultation was conducted under the GEF-7 Invasive Alien Species Project, under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) with support from UNDP. The initiative demonstrates the ongoing commitment of MNRE, UNDP, and the people of Falealupo to safeguarding Samoa’s biodiversity , strengthening biosecurity efforts, and building resilient ecosystems for present and future generations.
