Land Management ACEO – Felisita Heather officially welcomed all participants to the Consultations program titled with the theme: Feed me to feed you. The program is to commemorate the Soil resources as a physical corner stone of life on earth. The consultation program facilitated by the Ministry had involved community members and relevant stakeholders from Land Transport Authority, University of the South Pacific (USP), Ministry of Agricultural and Fisheries (MAF) and many others.
The main purpose of this consultation program is to discuss on land issues by identifying the problem and providing reasonable solutions that will assist the Ministry in developing Samoa. The participants were also given the opportunity to provide feedback on the amendment of the Soil Resources Management Bill. This bill will assist the Ministry in monitoring and regulating the uses of soil resources for the sustainable development of land resources in Samoa. With this bill, the Ministry expects to guide Samoa into sustainable developments and fulfilling our obligations under the United Nations Conventions to Combat Desertification’s (UNCCD)
The participants also had the chance to discuss land issues with soil experts who had conducted presentations as platforms to assist the public in building good capacity on current work implemented by involved Agencies, especially raising awareness on the importance of sustainable developments of our Soil Resources.
