A full-day training workshop \u00a0on Social \u00a0and Environmental \u00a0Safeguards (SES) \u00a0was successfully conducted \u00a0at the Lava Hotel , bringing together key representatives \u00a0from government ministries, partner organisations , and academia .<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The workshop \u00a0was conducted as part of the GEF-7 Samoa \u00a0IAS project\u2019s initiative to support improved, integrated catchment management \u00a0while minimising environmental \u00a0and social \u00a0risks \u00a0through application of specific mitigation measures.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
With the support \u00a0of the UNDP<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span>, MCO office and facilitation by E&S Safeguards Specialist \u00a0Ms. Kate Walker, the workshop focused on strengthening the participants\u2019 understanding \u00a0of social \u00a0and environmental \u00a0safeguards \u00a0and their application to project planning \u00a0and implementation .<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Particular emphasis \u00a0was placed on ensuring that environmental protection , biodiversity conservation , human rights , and meaningful stakeholder engagement \u00a0are appropriately considered throughout every project cycle .<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The key areas covered \u00a0during the workshop included; Understanding what safeguards \u00a0are and why human rights , biodiversity conservation , and stakeholder engagement \u00a0matter. Where safeguards \u00a0sit, from concept \u00a0and screening \u00a0through to monitoring . The training \u00a0included interactive sessions , putting the technical learning \u00a0into practice \u00a0by using real activity level examples \u00a0from the GEF-7 Samoa \u00a0IAS Project.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Ministry \u00a0extends its sincere appreciation \u00a0to the Global Environment Facility (GEF) \u00a0and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) \u00a0for their continued partnership \u00a0and technical support . Appreciation \u00a0is also extended to Ms. Kate Walker for facilitating the training , as well as to all participating government representatives , partner organisations , and SNITT members for their valuable contributions \u00a0and continued commitment \u00a0to safeguarding Samoa\u2019s \u00a0biodiversity , environment , and communities.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
