Savaia, Lefaga \u00a0has officially renewed its commitment \u00a0to prepare for, respond to, and recover from tsunami hazards through Samoa\u2019s Tsunami Ready Recognition Programme, following the review consultations \u00a0to assess their existing Tsunami Response Plan\u00a0and the installation of new and additional tsunami signages.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

These efforts demonstrate the village\u2019s strong commitment to enhancing disaster preparedness and safeguarding its community\u00a0from tsunami threats.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Savaia village holds a special place in the history of the programme, being the first and only village not only in Samoa but across the\u00a0Pacific Region to pilot the Tsunami Ready Recognition Programme in 2017.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u00a0The programme provided an important opportunity for village leaders, women, youth, and community members \u00a0to deepen their understanding of tsunami hazards , strengthen evacuation planning , and explore practical actions \u00a0to improve community safety \u00a0and resilience . Their enthusiastic participation \u00a0reflected the value of working together \u00a0to ensure the village is well prepared before an emergency occurs.\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u00a0Led by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) through its Disaster Management Office<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span> and Meteorological Service<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span> Divisions, the programme is delivered with the support of UNESCO and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). This partnership continues to equip communities across Samoa with the knowledge, skills, and resources \u00a0needed to strengthen resilience against natural hazards.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
