The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) and the Sosaiete Fa\u2019asao Samoa (SFS) have taken a significant step forward in advancing Samoa\u2019s environmental governance through the formalization of a strategic partnership. This was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the Vailima Botanical Garden on July 21, 2025\u2014a milestone in the collective national effort to protect Samoa\u2019s environment and natural heritage for both current and future generations.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\"\u25b6\ufe0f\"<\/span>In her official remarks, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MNRE, Afioga Lealaisalanoa Frances Brown Reupena emphasized that the \u201cMOU represents more than a legal arrangement; it is a reflection of a shared commitment to protecting and conserving Samoa\u2019s precious ecosystems\u201d. She acknowledged the critical role of civil society organizations such as SFS in advancing national environmental priorities, noting that the Ministry cannot achieve its stewardship responsibilities in isolation.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\"\u25b6\ufe0f\"<\/span>She acknowledged the vital role that civil society organizations such as SFS play in supporting the Ministry\u2019s mandate. \u201cEnvironmental stewardship cannot be achieved in isolation,\u201d she stated. \u201cSFS has consistently demonstrated leadership in key areas such as endangered species recovery, forest restoration, and community-led conservation initiatives.\u201d<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\"\u25b6\ufe0f\"<\/span>Lealaisalanoa also emphasized that the collaborative work of SFS aligns strongly with Samoa\u2019s key national strategies, including the Pathway for the Development of Samoa (2022\u20132026), the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP), and the National Invasive Species Strategy and Action Plan (NISSAP). Furthermore, these initiatives support Samoa\u2019s broader commitments under regional and international environmental frameworks.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\"\u25b6\ufe0f\"<\/span>The MOU provides a platform to strengthen future collaboration through improved coordination, joint research, data sharing, strategic planning, and the implementation of community-based conservation programs. The CEO extended her appreciation to SFS for their enduring support and substantive contributions to the Ministry\u2019s mission. \u201cLet this MOU not merely exist in principle, but be brought to life through meaningful action, innovation, and inclusive community engagement,\u201d she urged.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
