CEO Lealaisalanoa Frances Debra Brown- Reupena\u00a0<\/strong><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

In December of the previous year, Ms. Reupena was appointed to her current role during the final Cabinet meeting of that session. She emerged as one of five candidates vying for the prestigious position, ultimately securing the appointment due to her extensive qualifications and experience. Ms. Brown-Reupena takes over the leadership of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (M.N.R.E.) from Ulu Bismarck Crawley, who stepped down to pursue a candidacy in the general election 2021. With nearly ten years of dedicated service within the Ministry, she brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her new role. Before her elevation to the Chief Executive Officer position, Ms. Brown-Reupena held the title of Assistant Chief Executive in the Environment Sector Coordination Division, in addition to serving as the Water and Sanitation Sector Coordinator for the Ministry. Her educational background includes being an alumna of St. Mary\u2019s College, and after completing her preparatory year at the National University of Samoa in 1994, she furthered her studies in Fiji. This combination of practical experience and academic achievement positions her well to lead the Ministry in addressing the pressing environmental challenges facing the region.<\/p>\n

It also has impacts to the productivity and economic output of primary industries such as agriculture, forestry and fisheries, as well as threatening the integrity and biodiversity of natural ecosystems and their processes. The project objective to equip and empower local communities to safeguard Samoa\u2019s indigenous species, natural ecosystems and food production systems from IAS and unsustainable land use practices is to be achieved through the implementation of three interrelated and mutually complementary Components that are focused on addressing existing barriers.[\/et_pb_tab][et_pb_tab title=”3 Million Tree Planting Campaign” _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]Forestry Farmers play a vital role in replanting forests through woodlots, agroforestry, and boundary planting to name a few hence, the 3MTPC (3 Million Tree Planting Campaign 2022 – 2028) values their ongoing contributions and recognizes their hard work. These farmers were invited for the first time to a series of consultation workshops carried out in 6 districts last week. The aim was to introduce the grants offered by the campaign to plant more trees encouraging their input to meet the 3 million targets by the year 2028 and to mitigate climate boosting conservation and sustainable use of forestry resources[\/et_pb_tab][et_pb_tab title=”RIR PFP Project” _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]The Division of Environment and Conservation (DEC) under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), in collaboration with its partners, Island Conservation, SPREP-PRISMSS, and the landowner of Nu’utele island, is conducting an eradication campaign against invasive predators as part of the PRISMSS Restoring Island Resilience – Predator Free Pacific (PRISMSS-RIR-PFP) Samoa project. This operation aims to assess the presence of invasive predators, such as Feral Pigs and Rats, on Nu\u2019utele Island, located off the Aleipata coast, with the objective of eradicating them in order to restore the island\u2019s fragile biodiversity.
\nNu\u2019utele Island is home to unique native fauna and flora species that are crucial to the island\u2019s ecological balance. However, invasive species have been threatening these species and the island\u2019s ecosystem. The operation, carried out by the Division of Environment and Conservation and its partners, is the first step towards effectively restoring the island\u2019s natural habitat.[\/et_pb_tab][et_pb_tab title=”International Climate Initiative” _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]This sixth international call for proposals invites regional, national, and local organizations from ODA-eligible countries to apply for funding aimed at local or regional climate and biodiversity initiatives.
