Advanced Drillers Training in Vanuatu Dates: 18th August – 08th September, 2019

Brief Overview

This Training Workshop in Practical and Theorretical exercise is being held in Port Villa (Tanna Island) as part od EU-funded. “Building a safe and resilience Pacific” (13SRD) Project and linked to its aspiration to strengthen capacities in climate change adaptation (CCA) and Disaster Risk Management (DRM). SPC was organising drilling with the Govenment of Vanuatu and it was later realised that current drilling capacity was not sufficient to fully operate the hammer and truck mounted rig as well as to withstand the challenge of volcanic system.

Training Focus and Purpose

The 3 weeks Training its for sharing ideas, skills and knowledge of:

* how to operate a drilling rig.

* how to construct a water well bore hole.

* your safety and safety of other workers

* to up skill drillers to improving groundwater drilling practice in their countries.

Objectives/aims

The main aim of this training is to upskill the Drillers around Pacific and to get water for people of Tanna Island living in the middle bush, because they need water everyday. They only depend on the raining water for there life.

Expected Outcomes

It is expected to this Project to be continue inside Tanna Island. The whole island need more water and the population of the community is high, so more bore hole is needed.

Way Forward

This Training is better for up-skill the skill and knowledge. Is to improve the Geo-technical drilling and also for Water Resources monitoring bore holes. I will share to the staff what I got from the training when we are working at the field.
