ISSUED BY SAMOA METEOROLOGICAL SERVICES AT 11:00 A.M (LOCAL TIME)
THURSDAY 11th, MARCH 2010.

 

…GALE WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR ALL SAMOA HIGHLANDS…

…GALE WATCH REMAINS IN EFEFCT FOR ALL OF SAMOA …

(i)                 Tropical Depression 14F was located at about 310 nautical miles northwest of Apia

or 260 nautical miles northwest of Asau at 7.00 am this morning and it is continue moving west southwest at 08 mph.

 

(ii)               For Highland areas (Vaoala-Tiavi, Aleisa, Tanumalala, Lemafa, Lata, Aopo): Northerly gale winds of 35-50 mph, gusting up to 60 mph at times.

 

(iii)              Rest of Samoa (Northern Coastal areas):  North to northeast winds of 20-30 mph, gust up to 45 mph at times.

 

(iv)             While the tropical depression is continue moving away from Samoa its strong to gale wind radius is expanding and will continue affecting Samoa for the next 48 hours and might increase in the weekend.

 

(v)               Isolated to scattered showers, moderate falls expected over highlands. Seas moderate to rough with developing swell of 9-12 feet.

Situation: An active trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain remains slow moving over Tokelau
 
Forecast to midnight tonight for Tokelau:
OVER LAND : Moderate to fresh north to northwest winds, gusty at times.
OVER WATERS: North to northwest winds 20 to 25 knots, gusty to 35  knots in squalls.
Periods of rain, heavy at times and squally thunderstorms.
Moderate to rough seas.
