Samoa was the first country in the South Pacifc apart from New Zealand and Australia to establish a national park. You are provided here with information on Samoa's current state of parks and reserves development. From the establishment of the 'O le Pupu Pu'e' National Parks, the 'Robert Louis Stevenson Memorial' and 'Mt. Vaea Scenic Reserves' and the 'Palolo Deep Marine Reserves' in the late '70s you will also learn of newly established Reserves around Apia and as far as Salelologa Savaii in the '90s and beginning of this century. The following sites were identified in ecological surveys of the ‘90s as the best global representations of the types of ecosystems found in Samoa.
